Full Circle - The Story of Why Kelle Works With The Transformation Leaders of the WorldIn 1652, Kelle's ancestor, a french Count named Antionne LeCompte, settled on the land he had been given on the eastern shore of what would become Maryland. Coming to the Americas on the heels of the Jamestown massacre, and living with the fear of Indian reprisals, Antionne LeCompte became increasingly paranoid that his settlement would be attacked. It is unclear from the histories which tribe he invited, but it is said that in his paranoia he invited a tribe over to share a meal. While they were eating, he had his men quietly, one-by-one, take the members of the tribe aside (men, women and children), and put them to death. At some point during the evening, the medicine man of the tribe noticed this happening and demanded an audience with Antionne. His request could not, according to custom, be refused, so he was granted his audience. During the meeting it is said that the medicine man cursed Antionne LeCompte's family that they should be blind for all their days. He too was executed along with the remainder of the tribe. To this day, there is a dominant gene in the LeCompte family line that causes severe nearsightedness rendering the family effectively "blind" without their glasses. Skip forward roughly thirteen generations to 2002. Kelle (LeCompte) Sparta, without knowing her family's history, begins to study Native American spiritual traditions. She also has a passion for business, having started and run many businesses in her life. Kelle is in the process of giving away everything she owns in preparation for a journey she is taking. After scheduling this "give-away", she is reading Lame Deer Seeker of Visions and finds the reference that the first step an apprentice shaman (medicine man) takes before heading off on his vision quest is to give away everything he owns. In recognizing this, she realizes her journey will be more significant than she knew. In the end, she will journey for almost a year, going where spirit takes her and staying with those she meets along the way. Her pilgrimage will take her 14,000 miles and introduce her to many teachers. And, in the end, she will come to find herself. Upon returning from her walkabout, she steps back into the day-to-day world, but finds that it lacks spirit, focus, and purpose. Thus she begins to conceive of ways to uncover the underpinnings of our world. She sees the need to bring transformation to the land - to bring us as a people back into connection with each other and the land on which we live. To show us that our lives are gifts and we are the stewards of them. And so it comes full circle. In ordering the slaughter of a tribe, Antionne LeCompte participated in removing the stewards of the land from the Americas. Today, it is more important than ever that we reestablish that stewardship - over the land, over our businesses, and over our lives. In doing this work, Kelle is working to undo the damage that her ancestor did over 400 years ago.
